Any film that can fetch the family together for a fun, wholesome, and engrossing plan, and acquire the interest of all for it’s entire length, gets 5 stars in my book. “Casper” is one of those films. It may not go down as some ample allotment of cinematic art, but it is one that all generations can delight in, will leave you with a smile, and something to talk about with kids afterwards.

Based on the stale comical book stories, “Casper” is a very superior but very lonely ghost. He lives in an old-fashioned mansion, that has seen better days. He is not alone in this tall house though, he lives with his three very outrageous(but droll) uncles,”Stretch”, “Stinky” and “Fatso”. Casper only wants someone to fade in,so he could have a friend, the uncles on the other hand, do their very best to terror away any visitors.

So when a greedy woman inherits the property, and believes there is a buried like inside, she hires an array of ‘ghostbusters’ to rid the house of all spirits. None seem to be able to handle this awful trio, until one day a ghost psychiatrist and his lonely daughter(also looking for a friend),disappear in and try to tame the threesome. From there it’s a fun and wild bound, and a touching chronicle of friendship.

The film has a terrific cast that works well with the incredible animation and special effects. Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci are the father and daughter team that relieve these spirits. Cathy Moriarty(”Forget Paris”), and Eric Slothful as her bumbling assistant add their talents as they go for the adore.Lots of gargantuan names are cameoed throughout. Don Novello, and Dan Aykroyd reprise their roles of Father Guido Sarducci, and ghostbuster Dr. Raymond Stantz for brief appearances, fair to name a couple.

The voices including Brad Garrett as “Fatso” are suitable, and you can never go immoral when James Horner scores a film with unprejudiced the accurate touches.

It’s rated PG for some occassional unexcited language and thematic elements, and at an hour and a half, it impartial the fair length, and is a delicious contrivance to utilize some laugh out loud family time together.

Who says there are no such things as ghosts? Not if there is the ghostly inhabitants of Whipstaff Manor in Friendship, Maine!
This desolate mansion is then, in the words of one of the members of the Ghostly Trio of Whipstaff, ‘intruded’ by Kat Harvey (Christina Ricci) and her eccentric father Dr. James Harvey (Bill Pullman), a ghost therapist. Carrigan Crittenden (Cathy Moriarty) had hired Dr. Harvey to exorcise the ghosts, including Casper the top-notch ghost and his three substandard uncles, Stretch, Fatso and Stinkie, aspiring to fetch Whipstaff’s ‘buried gold’.
Intertwining humour, all-time ‘floating’ fun and a unusual Cinderella yarn, ‘Casper’ promises to please as a movie which is compelling, hilarious, spirited, heart-warming, witty and above all, truly ‘fleshtastic’.
‘Casper’ is recommended for any audience, regardless of age. … ‘Casper’ … manages to appear endearing and ultimately special.
The magic of Bill Pullman, Christina Ricci as well as that of director Brad Silberling, executive producer Steven Spielberg, and other producers weaves between each and every scene to eventually catch us off our feet.
Above all, I Like THIS MOVIE! Casper is my all time favourite character. Truly fleshtastic. BOOlistic! You won’t BOOlieve it until you peek it.

This is a beautifully shot film, a must peek in high-definition. There is no over-dramatization or attempt to alter the reality of life of researchers in the world’s toughest research facility–Antarctica. The serendipitous discovery of the fossil by the cramped team of researchers captured in the film is a bonus (it later made tremendous news, which indicated that the Polar dwelling was powerful warmer than previously conception) If you be pleased the artistry of marvelous film-making, this one is not to be missed.

This is an incredible scrutinize at the people who inhabit Antarctica today. These are fresh day explorers venturing deep into the interior to conduct climate research, and also the men and women who preserve McMurdo Unpleasant running. An up finish and intimate survey at living and working in Antarctica. No penguins. Graceful cinematography. Really fabulous views that I have never scene before. Definitely worth the peruse.

Cyber City Odeo is not the best anime out there, but for roughly $10, it’s more than worth it. During the time of it’s initial release, this cramped series certainly stood out among the droves of cliché filled anime out there. The animation/art style is venerable mid 80’s to early 90’s, with the it’s characters having more normal sized eyes, and the exhaust of heavy blacks for shading being more prominent.

The writing certainly has problems in areas (like the dialog having a bit too great clichéd swearing about every 5 seconds), and the image quality hasn’t been enhanced at all fo the DVD (VHS quality, and no widescreen), but for all its faults, this is a tremendous deal for an anime that certainly should be seen by any anime fan out there.

I am very tickled with the dvd I received and the timely manner in which the seller sent it. I received and was able to see Cyber City in only 4 days from ordering it. Please pass my thank and let the seller know the dvd plays beautifully.

“The Nun’s Yarn” is probably Audrey Hepburn’s best film and by far the one which shows to best conclude her mammoth acting talent. It is the autobiographical yarn of Sister Luke, a very young Belgian nun, who enters the convent at age 17 for specifically the defective reason: her doctor father refuses to let her marry the young man she loves because there is insanity in his family background. She won’t admit to him, as she is too young to admit it to herself, that her underlying reason in entering the convent was to spite her father, who believes women have a duty to marry and have children, but he is powerless to oppose her in this; he can prevent her from marrying her fiance, but who is he to defy God? Sister Luke, as played by Hepburn, wins us over instantly: she’s honorable, open-hearted, all or nothing, trying and failing and trying again, expecting too great of herself, wanting to fit in to the routine of her cloister, but feeling stifled by its constraints. The atmosphere of the convent is brought so vividly to life that we feel the conflicts pulling her in opposite directions: the peace and serenity that are embodied in the Reverend Mother Emmanuel (Edith Evans is so big in this role that she doesn’t seem to be acting at all), and the incessant weight of seemingly arbitrary and nonsensical rules and regulations that attempt to crush all individuality and spontaneity. The pivotal conflict arises in the first half of the movie, when Sister Luke is asked by her Mother Pleasurable to fail a qualifying examination for a nursing post in the Congo so that a less gifted nun can have her site, and Sister Luke has to obtain a choice: her failure will be a gift from God, but her success in the examination will obtain her a situation in the Congolese hospital where her talents can be most fully utilized. And this is where Sister Luke has to face her inner dilemma: the convent, with all its rules and regulations, hasn’t managed to crush her individuality — she is too mighty her occupy person to let go of herself.

It is in the Congo that Sister Luke comes into her gain. She falls in cherish with the country and its people as soon as she steps off the boat. She is sent to the European hospital to wait on Dr. Fortunati, a shiny, cynical surgeon who immediately sees through Sister Luke and understands her better than she understands herself. The meeting of minds between these two is awesome to examine and in itself makes the movie worth seeing. Dr. Fortunati, brilliantly played by Peter Finch, tells Sister Luke time and again that she will never be the kind of nun her convent expects her to be. The sexual tension between the two is evident but downplayed; Dr. Fortunati knows it’s impossible and Sister Luke simply refuses to reply it. The climax comes when Sister Luke is ordered support to the mother house in Belgium, and we suspect that Dr. Fortunati may have had a hand in it, to force her to face up to the fact that she is more nurse than nun.

The year is 1939 and World War II is about to originate. Sister Luke, chafing at the constraints of the mother house, is drawn into the war in ways her convent never imagined or would sanction. She assists a young lay nurse, who looks up to her as a role model, to work for the Resistance. She is jubilant when a German woman dies in the convent hospital. And she is finally forced to witness inside herself and realize that while she may be able to derive chastity and poverty, obedience is impossible. At this point Sister Luke realizes she can no longer go on living a lie. The scenes in which her confessor and Reverend Mother Emmanuel attempt to dissuade her from leaving the convent are the most remarkable in the film. “You joined the convent to be a nun, not a nurse”, remonstrates Reverend Mother. But this is precisely where she’s wrong; Sister Luke is noteworthy more a nurse than she will ever be a nun. After 17 years at war with herself, Sister Luke signs the papers severing her from her convent, and goes out into the world.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Nun’s Story! Click Here

Hepburn’s performance in a role which demands so distinguished from her is incredible; we not only feel but section all her conflict and inner distress. There is no contrivance she could near across as a lifeless, mousy nun (Hepburn would be drop-dead comely even in a burlap sack) but her acting is so convincing that we forget she is the beautiful Audrey Hepburn and glance her only as a soul in torment. Peter Finch is honorable as Dr. Fortunati and all of the minor characters are very well portrayed, but the accurate soul of the movie is Edith Evans as Reverend Mother Emmanuel, concerned with the spiritual health of her flock, and despairing yet fatalistic as one of her flock inexorably slips away. The movie is long (two and a half hours) but it’s never boring; it grabs our interest from the opening frame and holds it to the final frame in which Hepburn turns a corner out of the convent grounds and out of our look. The one jarring impress, especially after 40 years, is the patronizing paternalism of the Belgian colonization in the Congo; except for the education and medical care provided by the Church, the cruelty of Belgian colonial occupation was legendary and makes us wonder what Sister Luke’s fate would have been if she had returned to the Congo after she left the convent. At the slay of the film we are left with huge respect and admiration for an incredibly strong yet fallible young woman whose bound to self-knowledge is a life-long project.

Audrey Hepburn is best known for her light romantic comedies. Everybody loves them. She dresses up in some Givenchy outfits and blows the audience away with her beauty and charm. In “The Nun’s Yarn” she completly sheds that image and immerses herself in the role of the conflicted Sister Luke, a Belgian nun torn by her obligations to her church and order, her duty to her patients as a nurse, and her duty to her country during the Nazi occupation.

This a long and very introspective film that is not for everyone. It contains a detailed behold at life in a Belgian convent and a Congo hospital in the years before WWII which may bore some people. Also some of Audrey’s fans looking for her as Princess Anne or Sabrina Fairchild or Holly Golightly may be disappointed to come by only the obvious, reserved, and prideful Sister Luke. (Although Audrey does compose heavenly looking nun.) The length, the slowly paced style, the subject matter, and the unique role for its star have combined to maintain it off the list of Audrey Hepburn’s best known films.

Personally, I believe this Audrey’s greatest dramatic performance and maybe her best performance ever. She very ably conveys Sister Luke’s inner conflict between her oath as a nun and her duties as a nurse, daughter, and Belgian citizen. That she is able to do so in a film that has long stretches where there is no dialogue is noteworthy. She was nominated for Best Actress for this role, and she more than deserved to come by, but came up short. “The Nun’s Epic” illustrates that Audrey Hepburn certainly had the ability to flesh out dramatic characters and that she was more than objective a charming and radiant woman in a Givenchy outfit. She was a broad actor as well.

Our family is on a retro trail, having bought this movie, as well as The Sound of Music, My Delicate Lady, Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, The King and I, Willy Wonka, and Pete’s Dragon.

One of the reasons is that we want our 2 year extinct to experience the movies we grew up with, and the other is nostalgia.

Before watching this movie again recently, I could only remember that there was a flying car, a nice title song, and something about children being kidnapped. Watching it again for the first time, I discovered that I had forgotten most of the movie.

Caractacus Potts (Dick Van Dyke) is an inventor intention ahead of his time, whose inventions don’t always work the arrangement they are intended. If you mediate his name is queer, the female lead is Truly Delectable (Sally Ann Howes), the daughter of a rich sweet manufacturer. This unlikely pair, along with his two kids and the amazing car, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, are the star players in a chronicle which starts out being about pirates, and ends up as a rescue mission. With laughable abet from Caractacus’ father, and a toy maker (Benny Hill, in an uncharacteristic G rated performance), they defeat the schemes of spies (kind of like Laurel and Hardy combined with Boris and Natasha), an tainted Baron and Baroness, and a rank childcatcher, to bring the account within a sage to a predictable but fascinating extinguish.

The scenery is breathtaking, especially the Vulgarian castle and surroundings, and since this is a 1968 movie, we can forgive the lack of finesse in the special effects, where the characters stick out like sore thumbs from the backgrounds, and wires can be seen attached to Professor Potts during a dance sequence.

It’s a itsy-bitsy harder to swallow the thought of Truly Delectable running around on the beach dressed in tons of white cloth and coming up spotless, and her song about needing a resplendent man is method too over the top and grand too long. I will admit to skipping over that one.

The narrate along feature is a nice touch, and catchy songs (other than the theme song) include “Me Ancient Bamboo”, “Toot Sweet”, my personal approved “P O S H (Posh) “, and the nearly too sugary “Truly Delicious”.

Overall, this DVD is a refreshing family movie that you will eye over and over again.

This is one of the last astronomical budget fantasy musicals before these films became objective too expensive to earn. But Dick Van Dyke was at his zenith here and Sally Ann Howes was obliging as well. Impress that Ian Fleming wrote the modern sage and as a tribute there were two Bond actors in the cast. Gert Frobe as the King and Desmond Llewyn as Mr. Coggin. But I was very dissappointed to observe this DVD released in the Pan and Scan format. I really don’t understand why MGM/UA remastered the film in the THX process and former a trim pretty video transfer and doesn’t expose the film in its unusual widescreen format. At one-third of the film is missing and its really difficult to perceive this now considering I had owned the widescreen laserdisc of this film.

Stephanie Zimbalist comes out of the woodwork to star in this movie that was inspired by a factual memoir. I can bet a lot of it was fabricated, but am definite the gist of what happened is honest. It is scary in this day & age to believe of an American prison being so obnoxious as this one is portrayed, but it is not beyond opinion.

Zimbalist plays an everyday mother who inadvertantly breaks the law & is sent to prison. While there she is exposed to all sorts of horrifying practices of prison guards abusing their power & area. At every turn, her attempts to be proactive about the site fail.

While most movies that deal with women in prison are of the softcore porn variety, rest utter this movie is VERY serious. I would even go so far to say as it’s the women’s prison counterpart to SHAWSHENK REDEMPTION. If you’re keen in prison movies at all, this one is a must-have.

This movie kept my attention throughout. It’s about a woman who tried to place her employer as well as herself a puny money on some business deals and she distress up in prison. While there, she encountered practically every sterotype known to mankind and then some. I would recommend that you search for it for yourself.

The Best Represent of 1931-2 “Gargantuan Hotel” deserved it’s Oscar and deserves it’s space in history as a forerunner of star-studded films to approach. The cast alone is worth watching the film for. But the film stands on it’s believe as well and is smoothly done considering the intertwining stories of various people whose paths (and fates) unsuitable in that posh Berlin establishment. Greta Garbo as a uncomfortable ballerina is one reason to spy this but there’s John and Lionel Barrymore in substantial roles, Joan Crawford as an ambitious stenographer with fair issues, Wallace Beery and other recognizable actors in character roles. Warner Bros. has done a advantageous job with the DVD print so this is definitely a collector’s item. There are some fantastic interior shots inside the hotel with a incredible art deco peek to them. This hotel where “nothing ever happens” is a must for vintage classic film lovers. It’s a rare care for that’s been wonderfully preserved for future film lovers to devour. Perceive it for a classic survey at what going to the movies in the 30’s stale to be about.

“Tremendous Hotel” concerns guests staying at Berlin’s Vast Hotel. There’s the high strung, tempermental ballerina (Greta Garbo), the sassy vamp-like stenographer (Joan Crawford), the boorish industrialist (Wallace Beery), the stricken labourer (Lionel Barrymore) and the devilishly dazzling baron (John Barrymore) . These seemingly separate lives harmful over – some happily so, others with tragic circumstances – all thoroughly sharp and brilliantly performed. At the time of its release “Vast Hotel” was the first movie to feature more than one star above the title credits.

TRANSFER: After years of looking as though the camera negative had been fed through a meat grinder, this DVD digital remastering is a noteworthy improvement. Having said that, a lot of work is tranquil needed to win this one looking up to par. Solid blacks are about the best thing on this DVD. Disagreement levels appear too extreme in many of the scenes. There are a remarkable number of age related artifacts and quite a bit of film grain explain on this 70 plus year archaic classic. The audio has been extensively cleaned up but continues to prove noteworthy train. Truly, if this is a special edition it’s one of the poorest I’ve seen.

EXTRAS: Some featurettes that round out the history – if too briefly, of this classic film.

BOTTOM LINE: “Substantial Hotel” is undeniably interesting and a incandescent Oscar winner that is clear to enthrall for decades to reach! For the film and NOT the transfer, this is an absolute must for your film library!!!

Thinking of gender politics, the narrator does say she was the first woman to finish several aerial feats. However, this said she had a male co-pilot on her spot. I wonder why history has mostly erased him? Most importantly, I occupy every interviewee here being male. Usually works on women have female interviewees. I wonder if this mystery speaks to guys, rather than women, in some fashion.

The work also leaves me hanging in one draw. It ended by saying Earhart was tired of publicity and said this would be her last flight. The work never discusses whether she was suicidal.

The work had English captions, but I wish it had had foreign language subtitles as well.
